The 15-year-old girl who was charged with assaulting the late Lufuno Mavhunga will make her first court appearance today.
The session is scheduled to take place in a Children’s Court which specifically deals with matters affecting children.
In a serries of unfortunate events, the assault victim (Lufuno Mavhunga) later committed suicide after the bullying incident which caused an uproar in Thohoyandou and relevant departments to react.
In a media statement, Lufuno’s elder brother confirmed that the two teenage girls had a dispute on social media where Lufuno is reported to have blocked her assailant. The result was a backlash against Lufuno for blocking the other girl to view her social media profile on Facebook.
“What we know is that when her attacker was asked by the school Principal why she assaulted another leaner. Her response was that Lufuno had blocked her on Facebook. Which might tell you something was happening there”, Lufuno’s brother explained.
It is reported that Mbilwi Secondary School Principal is the one who pressed assault charges and later notified the family.
At present, Lufuno’s family confirmed that they have not taken any legal action in the matter as they are focusing on burying their child.
“Yesterday, the School Principal notified us that the 15-year-old has been arrested and that he had opened a case. As a family we have decided to focus on the burial of the deceased”.
Later today, Mbiliwi Secondary School will conduct a mass memorial service for Lufuno where fellow leaners and friends will attend.
