Veteran IsiXhosa news anchor Noxolo Grootboom has bid farewell to SABC after 37 years on air.

Best known for her iconic send-off “Ndinithanda nonke emakhaya” translated as “I love you all at home” Noxolo read her last TV news bulletin on Tuesday evening after joining the public broadcaster in 1983 where she started as a typist before making her way into broadcasting.

Noxolo had disappeared from the screen to work as an Editor in the output section and came back on screen in 2013 when she anchored the funeral service of former President Nelson Mandela and again in 2018 when she anchored the funeral service of Winnie Madikizela Mandela.

Since the announcement of her retirement South Africans took to social media to show her love and wish her well. She will be remembered for her humbleness and professionalism on air.

The SABC will honour her memorable career with a special broadcast on 3 May.
