Mpumalanga Police have arrested a taxi hitman linked to a series of assassinations of taxi operators in the province. The 28-year-old suspect is linked to two cases of murder and one case of attempted murder in Nkangala District.

The suspect has been linked to the assassination of France Oupa Manamela who was gunned down at Milivia Taxi Rank on 1 March 2021.

In another incident, the suspect is also linked to the shooting and attempted murder of a man who was driving a Taxi Patrol vehicle at Moloto near Kwamhlanga. The victim was shot in the leg and sustained injuries which led to hospitalisation.

South African Police Services Spokesperson Colonel Donal Mduli said the man was arrested a result of collective efforts by the community to apprehend the suspect.

“A call was also extended to the community to assist police with relevant information to help police in their investigation”, explained Colonel Mduli.
