Nonkululeko Gobdo and Major General Roy Andersen will be appointed as caretakers of the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA) after its’ board of directors was recently dissolved by the Minister of Finance.
Minister of Finance Tito Mboweni recently met with IRBA board of directors who took the opportunity to brief the minister on the resignation of other board members.
In a media statement the National Treasury reports that Minister Mboweni dissolved the board of directors after careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding the resignations of several board members.
“After careful consideration and, amongst others, taking into account the resignation of a number of board members and challenges in the functioning of the Board, the Minister dissolved the BoD, in line with section 12(5) of the Auditing Profession Act (APA)”, National Treasury.
With respect to section 12(6)(a), Minister Mboweni appointed Ms. Nonkululeko Gobodo and Major General Roy Andersen to be caretakers of the Independent Regulatory Body for Auditors.
Their roles will be assisting with the efficient running of the Independent Regulatory Board of Auditors until a new board of directors is appointed.
Gobodo and Andersen will also play a significant role to assist the minister of Finance with the appointment of the new board of directors in accordance with section 11 of APA and finalise the process within a period of three months.
Ms Gobodo is an accomplished chartered accountant with over 30 years of leadership and consulting experience. Her accounting firm stands to be the fifth biggest in South Africa. General Roy Andersen is a seasoned chartered accountant and currently serving as the Chairperson of SASFIN Holdings Limited.
In his career stretch, General Roy Andersen was president of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and Chairperson Sanlam and Chief Executive Officer for Liberty.
